CuanTec separates chitin, proteins, minerals, and lipids from shellfish byproduct. CuanTec takes the byproduct that would otherwise be incinerated to extract chitin, a naturally occurring biopolymer, with a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics and food industries. CuanTec’s proprietary technology naturally maintains the full chain length along with all the incredible properties of this amazing biopolymer while providing very high specification Chitosan.

Our scientific team can work with you to "tune" our amazing chitin during conversion to chitosan to whatever DDA, MWT and viscosity you need. Both the degree of deacetylation as well as the molecular weight dictate the chemical and physical properties of the chitosan product and therefore also its potential uses. 

CuanTec’s chitin/chitosan based coatings can considerably strengthen the paper and cardboard. In addition, CuanSave™ coating uses no plastics or plasticisers and is 100% biodegradable in nature, meaning the entire packaging box can be recycled as normal, meeting EU compostability standards. The packaging will naturally break down in the environment or can be recycled with paper pulp recovered as normal.
