Job Opportunity at CuanTec: Experienced Microbiologist

CuanTec require an Experienced Microbiologist to lead our lab-based team in Oban where we work to understand the antimicrobial nature of chitin and chitosan and to help create bioplastic that is fully compostable and makes fresh food last longer.

We work first-hand with the fisheries industry, diverting their food by-products from landfill and creating chitinous based food preserving agents such as preservative dips and anti-bacterial compostable bio-packaging. Ultimately tackling the ever-expanding issue of waste food and single-use plastics.

As Senior Microbiologist you will have obtained a minimum of a Master’s degree in microbiology with industrial experience, preferable with team leader, budgetary experience and perhaps a higher degree.

The ideal candidate will

  • Ensure the day to day management of the hazard group II microbiology facility, whilst also managing a small team, therefore project and team management skills would be essential.
  • Be responsible for designing and performing assays to determine the anti-microbial activity of our future products.
  • Have the ability to work in collaboration with other members of the team, who may be based off-site, as well as happily and safely working in and maintaining a containment II microbiological facility (necessity)
  • Play an integral part in the upscaling of biological fermentation processes, extracting chitin from our raw feedstocks and biologically conversing to chitosan.
  • Need to have a high understanding of immuno-assay and other biochemical methodologies and analytical techniques would also be advantageous,
  • Have a sound understanding of both GLP and GMP.
  • Be able to work proactively in a fast pace flexible environment, being able to adapt and develop creative solutions when the need to trouble shoot arises.
  • High level of competance and experience in data analysis, report writing, and verbal communication of results and ideas is a must.

Working for a small team means that no two days are the same, providing an opportunity to be involved in a whole range of activities both in and out of the laboratory. Being involved with CuanTec at these early and exciting stages will allow you to grow and develop skills as CuanTec grows and develops as a company.

CuanTec offers a fabulous work environment in the rural idyllic setting of Oban. We are a small company with much to offer.
